Get ready for watching all your favorite movies and shows with the new Toshiba 37AV500 720p HD TV. This great looking LCD TV has CineSpeed LCD panels that gives 8ms or faster response speed necessary for cleaner high-action home theater images, and a wide viewing angle that ensures you’ll have the best seat in the house. The benefit of DynaLight Back-Light Control is that it utilizes advanced image processing to monitor the brightness of each video frame, and adjust the backlight intensity accordingly based in the image content. This precision creates seamless transitions with deep blacks for increased detail and depth analysis, even in low light environments. Your ears will thank you with StableSound that maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. Take advantage of 720p HD picture quality and an impressive feature set with the 37AV500U. This model is a great addition for any home theater, and can also be used as a computer monitor by using the PC Input for displaying family photos or business presentations. 60Hz Video Scan Rate SoundStrip Speaker System with StableSound Integrated NTSC/ATSC/QAM TV Tuning Input Ports – 2 x HDMI, 2 x Composite Video, 1 x Rear S-Video, 1 x Front A/V, 1 x Rear A/V, 1 x PC 15Pin (VGA), Analog Audio Out, Dolby Digital Optical Out Approximate Unit Dimensions – 36.4 (W) x 26.2 (H) x 12.3 (D) with Stand Approximate Unit Weight – 45.1 pounds with Stand

5 Stars Great T.V.
This is the first T.V. that I have ever bought, and it is amazing. The picture quality is superb, the only downside is it doesn’t have 1080p. But that resolution isn’t even noticeable on this size tv. I don’t use the built in speakers so I don’t know if they are any good. I highly recommend this tv to just everyone.

5 Stars great tv for the price. Amazing pic
I actually was planning on getting a 1080 tv for our newly remodeled den. However, after spending so much on our renovation on the house, I decided to go “cheap.” Trust me, the pic is amazing. I may one day get the 1080 40 inch 120hz, but I couldn’t be happier with this purchase.

Oh….and in our area, the pic with an antenna is MUCH better than what we get on our cable HD channels. Go figure! (keep that in mind for football games). Regarding that, the auto channel select for Antenna works better than any tv I have ever had. Selects both the analog and digita channels.

3 Stars very good for its price but ….
Some problem over hdmi:

you must switch the tv on only after your device has been activated or you may get the fuzzy-snow-screen.

It has *only* two hdmi(s).

Audio is good and so is the picture.

1080i format is available.

It’s one the best money-worth hd TV on the market.

5 Stars 37″ Toshiba is an Exceptional TV
Purchased this TV after much research. I do mean much research. The picture quality is excellent. It was easy to set up and is attractive. The sound is very good also. I looked at many TV’s side by side and this one had as good a picture as the higher priced ones and better than the tvs in the same price range. Don’t even think of getting a 1080p. I was told by experts and I saw for myself that with this size screen you cannot see the difference, besides 1080p programs are not even broadcast yet and will be years before they are.

I am so pleased I made this purchase. There are so many to pick from but I believe I got one of the best. Another runner up was the Panasonic 37″.

1 Star Customer Service???
TV purchased in May. I was pretty happy with the picture for the relatively low price of the TV. TV has some limitations in picture quality that you would expect when you have a bargain price. Picture went out in October. Six weeks later find out the the part for repair will not be available till March 2009. Not a good sign! Still waiting for Toshiba to resolve the issue.

5 Stars Toshiba REGZA 42″ HDTV
The product was everything advertised. Great picture. Perfect fit in our space. Delivery was prompt. Couldn’t be happier with it. Excelent value

1 Star have only had this a month and serious problems have not been fixed
i got this tv at a local long-time dealer (since 1949) AND IT IS a nice looking set. however, I am having problems with it knocking out part of the sound during shows. sometimes it gets so bad, i have to turn it off for 10 min. and let it cool off. today i got a new part for the problem and guess, what, the problem is still there. i am going to have dealer take it back and get a Sony.

4 Stars Not as good as a Samsung or a Sony, but better than the rest.
This review probably doesn’t matter anymore since 42RV530U is not sold any longer.

Pros – Great picture, lots of connections (4 HDMI, 1 component, 1 optical digital audio, 1 VGA, etc), easy to operate, menus are good and easily customizable. I bought it for $1049 ($1199 – 150 discount) and at that time it was a great price. The sound is also very good for a TV speaker.

Cons – Ever since I bought this TV (more than a year before) there has been a small white light bleeding from the top right corner of the screen. This is not very visible when you watch programs during the day, but during night, especially where there is a lot of black on the screen or during a dark scene it is very irritating. I never bothered to send it back to Toshiba or to take it back to Circuit City.

5 Stars Most bang for your buck
I’ve had this TV since May 08′ and I’ve been very impressed. I use it for everything: TV, Blu-Ray Movies, Games, extended computer screen, etc… Only thing better would be 120Hz, but I’ve compared it to those screens and see very little difference. The colors are bright, the picture is sharp, and Toshiba is a great name in home electronics. What’s even better is the weight, this TV is only 50 lbs! This is the best TV I’ve ever owned and I will definitely be looking at Toshiba TV’s when upgrading in the future.

5 Stars Awesome picture!
The tv was rated one of the top 42′ LCD’s on consumer reports and it is definitely living up to that! As for sound we have a surround sound system so we can’t say much about the tv sound. If you can get this tv for under 1K I say go for it! Very easy to set up and all you need is a digital receiver to get the channels which is only $1 more a month than the regular receiver.

                  Buy/More Info

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great product
After reading other reviews I thought this would be a great TV for my mother. I was right. She loved it. It replaced the 13″ standard TV that she has. Plus it took up less space on her night stand. With the built in DVD player less wires showing. On one review they talked about a bright light. After installing I found no such bright light. There was a light showing when it was on or off. That light was no brighter than the LED Clock on the night stand. Mom said this was a great Mothers Day Present for her.

This makes the third Toshiba for me. 26″LCD/Built in DVD Player,32″ LCD, and now this 15.6″LCD/DVD Player. All are doing great

4 Stars Great TV!
Needed a white tv for our kitchen, this one fit the ticket perfectly. Not too big or small and in white. Little pricey but pickings were slim. Picture and channels are slow to appear or change, but come on, it’s in my kitchen not my living room, can live with it.:)

5 Stars Great Space Saver TV
I love my TV. It’s very slim and compact. It sits really nice on my kitchen counter without taking up very much space. I love that it’s white and matches all of my appliances.

5 Stars Outstanding small TV s
small TV/dvd…..good picture light weight can take anywhere you want.

easy set up….out of the box and plug in.

4 Stars Recommended
I was looking for a small white TV for the kitchen and found this one. We hooked it up to our cable. When I turned it on the picture was fuzzy, even on the digital channels that are usually HD, so at first I thought I had received a model that wasn’t HD. However, I found that there is a setting called “video label” that wasn’t turned on to HD as the default setting. Once I set it for HDTV for cable, then I started receiving an HD picture on the digital channels. Even the channels that are analog and not HD look fine now. I also had to change the default color scheme from cool to warm to get the perfect coloring for faces. Now the picture is great! It’s the perfect size for the kitchen. You do need to place it away from the stove and the sink.

The Toshiba 42HL67U 42″ Diagonal REGZA LCD TV has PixelPure 3G 3rd Generation digital video processor to run at a fast 333Mhz with high 14 bit internal processing. PixelPure is capable of producing an amazing 4,096 levels of gradation (16 times greater than an 8 bit processor) for a smooth, natural picture without image banding. PixelPure continuously monitors the incoming video signal, adjusting multiple picture quality parameters including real speed progressive scanning, dynamic gamma, dynamic backlight control and improved dynamic MPEG noise reduction. DynaLight utilizes advanced PixelPure histogram image processing to monitor the brightness level of each video frame, and automatically adjusts the backlight intensity based on the image content. Precise signal analysis allows for 256 levels of backlight control. This creates seamless transitions, and a Dynamic contrast that is up to 5x that of the original panel contrast. The result is a considerably deeper black level for increased detail and depth. CineSpeed LCD panels have the 8ms or faster response speed necessary for cleaner high-action home theater images. A wide 176-degree viewing angle and gloss black cosmetics complement the set in a compact cabinet with a slim SoundStrip speaker system. 4-Modes Dynamic Contrast Static Gamma Color Temperature Control – Cool, Medium, Warm SRS WOW SoundStrip Speaker System Dolby Digital Dynamic Range Control 4-Item Universal Remote PC Support – VGA, 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i & 1080p Ports – 3x HDMI Inputs, 15 Pin D-Sub PC Input, 2x ColorStream HD Component Inputs, 1x Side AV Input, 1x Rear S+AV Input, 1x RF Inputs, 1x Fixed Audio Out and 1x Optical Audio Out Dimensions – Width 40.46 x Height 26.52 x Depth 4.89 / 40.46 x 28.53 x 13.20 with stand Weight – 54.02 pounds / 59.54 pounds with stand

5 Stars very satisfied
I have owned this tv for about little over a month. So far, it hasn’t given me any trouble. The white glove delivery went smoothly.

5 Stars buying online
I was very wary about buying online but wanted to say that the procedure through Amazon was flawless. I would do it again without a second thought!

5 Stars Awsome TV for the price
This is the 2nd Toshiba I have purchased and I am very happy with the picture quality. I would recommend this TV even though it is not a 1080p. You can’t tell the difference unless you stand very very close

3 Stars Quick Shipping but POOR INSTALLATION!
I have always had a great experience with Amazon until this one – their large delivery service partner – EAGLE were terrible, not only were they an hour late of the time frame given to me, but they were very inexperienced with assembly and installation of the TV. On top of the slow and poor experience, once they assembled the tv, they dropped it on my glass coffee table, damaging both. Trust me, do not get the white glove delivery service. Just sign for it at the door and don’t let them in!

5 Stars Excellent
Go to any store where all TVs are connected to the same signal and you can compare image quality on all brands. For me, nothing tops Toshiba in the price range. This TV is very good.

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star This TV should not be SONY
I am using sony since 10 years and after purchasing my KDL-46s2010 then I changed my mind.

I purchased this TV MAy 17, 2007. After using 3 months I am seeing the alien picture on the screen. The color is displaying only in green,, Not able to see clear picture on the screen. Contacted sony and the customer service was great. They arranged local specialist to take a look. They are still working on it ( 4 weeks as of now) i am still waitng to fix the issue from Sony.

it has only one HDMI port; which means, you can either get HD reception from your Cable or Satellite antenna, or your DVD player, or Camcorder. To get around it, you have to unhook one, and hook the other one, every time; it is very inconviniant and unpleasant.

The picture quality is OK, not that great I compare with Samsung or Sharp..Sharp and Samsung provide much better quality, brightness, and speed. the TV freezes; or a big portion of screen turns into Chess type squares with fuzzy colors.

Final conclusion.. SONY is junk.. I would not recommend this to anyone

5 Stars “Don’t pay big bux for 1080p while this one is still available!”
Wow! I thought it looked good in the store, but when I got it home….!

While Sony and Samsung lead the field right now, you can forget the 1080p hype. This thing is amazing! Pick one up if you find it at a good price because it will be phased out, no doubt. Nothing to add that hasn’t already been said, except to say that if you take the time to tweak it, I cannot image a finer picture on digital HD. My easy chair is about 12 feet away, and this is just about the perfect size. SD channels are not quite as good as on old fashioned TV, but the future will probably take care of that. Again, if you’re debating paying the extra money for 1080p, right now, forget it. This is so sharp and bright LOTR on upconverted DVD will make you dizzy!

5 Stars Great Value for HDTV
I looked at the 1080i sets from Samsung and Sony, but realized that I would not get any benefit from 1080 over the 720i sets that sell for hundreds less. HD TV signals today are all 720i and current gen DVDs can be up converted to 720i. But only the next gen DVDs (blue ray, etc.) can use the 1080 resolution. It may be years until the next gen format war is resolved, so there really isn’t a practical reason to go for the 1080 sets.

I looked long and hard at the Sony 46S2010 versus the Samsung LNS4692 720i set. Both have excellent reviews and look great in a showroom. The way I decided on the Sony was to go to a TV showroom and find the two side by side. Then I adjusted both sets to normal color saturation (out of the box, both are set to “Vivid,” which stands out in the showroom but looks stupid in your living room). After those adjsutments were made, I found the Sony to be more realistic in skin tone colors and had less “clay face.” You really can’t go wrong with either set though.

One disadvantage of the Sony to consider is that it has only one HDMI input. This would be a problem if you have a cable box with HDMI output and you also want to connect an upconvert DVD player which requires HDMI out. If you are in that situation, go for the Samsung which has two HDMI inputs.

5 Stars Best buy for immediate future
The screen glare of plasma TVs and their much higher power consumption pushed us toward LCDs. The question then became whether to go with 720p or 1080p. With a 46″ screen at an average viewing distance of 9-10′, it is difficult to see much difference between the two. In addition, we don’t intend to purchase an HD DVD player and HD broadcasts will be 720p for the foreseeable future. By the time a DVD standard is established and broadcast resolution increases to 1080p, the prices and features of 1080p models will improve. We have been very impressed with the quality of HD broadcasts on this TV and the remote control is very easy to use. At this point in the evolution of HD broadcasting, this TV cannot be beat.

1 Star Think before you buy SONY
I have been a faithful SONY customer all my life (TV, Computer, Laptop, Camera, Home Theatre, etc) until I bought my latest KDL-46S2000; then things changed.

For starter, it has only one HDMI port; which means, you can either get HD reception from your Cable or Satellite antenna, or your DVD player, or Camcorder. To get around it, you have to unhook one, and hook the other one, every time; it is very inconviniant and unpleasant.

The picture quality is OK, but I compare that to my Sony Tube TV, and not with similar LCD HD TV’s in the same price range; if compared with others, Panasonic and Samsung provide much better quality, brightness, and speed. Speed? Yes, speed. When you watch an action movie, sports, or any fast moving TV program, the TV freezes; or a big portion of screen turns into Chess type squares with fuzzy colors.

I know I have been a loyal customer of SONY, but looking at this product, I know I would have had a much better TV if I were looking at other brands. And that’s what I will do the next time I buy any electronic product.

You’re happy with your widescreen HDTV. Did you know that the discs available for rent and sales aren’t really HD compatible? Even if they were, you wouldn’t appreciate the benefits from your current DVD player that’s designed to play discs at up to 480p resolution. HDTV is 720p – 1080i – 1080p display capable. Toshiba’s HD-XA1 is the first player to play HD-DVD media and that’s really important for widescreen HDTV owners. Virtually all the DVD videos sold or rented are capable of displaying 480p resolution. An HD-DVD is capable of displaying 720p and 1080i High Definition resolutions resulting in even better images than you’ve ever seen on your TV. On HDTV models that are capable of HDTV display, the HD-AX1 can deliver 1080p interpolation when connected through the HDMI port. It will also play current DVD and CD at their maximum output but only HD-DVD will bring you the high-definition that you’re looking for. HD-DVD is the next generation format and it’s here. This is where home-theater realizes its potential. Enhanced Black Level (0IRE / 7.5IRE Selection) Letterbox / Pan & Scan Support Built-in Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS and DTS-HD Decoders for surround sound / Dolby Pure HD Compatible (2 Channel) HDMI Audio support up to 5.1 L-PCM / 5.1 Channel Bass Management Dynamic Range Control Allows MP3 and WMA Playback on CDR and CDRW Connections – Front Panel – 2 USB Terminals / Rear Panel – 1 High Definition Multimedia Interface (ver. 1.1); 1 ColorStream Pro Component Video (gold plated); 1 S-Video (gold plated); 1 Composite Video (gold plated); 1 Stereo Analog Audio (gold plated); 5.1 Multi-Channel Analog Audio (gold plated); 1 Coaxial Digital Output (gold plated); 1 TosLink Optical Digital Output; 1 Ethernet 10/100 Port; 1 RS-232C Approximate Unit Dimensions – Width – 17.72 x Height – 4.33 x Depth – 13.39 / Approximate Unit Weight – 16 lbs

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Great High Definition player
I’ve owned this player for over 1 1/2 years and after the initial firmware updates it has been flawless and even quicker to load now (which was one of it’s largest drawbacks).

I know you’ve read the so called complaints about it only out-putting 1080i signal, but if you have a quality 1080p HDTV it just de-interlaces the signal and you see a full 1080p picture anyway.

I’d have given this 5 stars but it still is just a little slow to start-up, not real bad just slower then a regular DVD player is.

I own both a PS3 and this HD DVD player and while I really like my PS3 my XA1 still delivers a better upscaled picture of regular DVDs (not huge but still better).

Most of the negative reviews are just Blu-Ray supporters posting with hidden agendas or people that were not aware of the need at first for firmware updates or the few problems with early HD DVDs and combo DVDS and got impatient and frustrated.

2 Stars impressions of unit
Unit looks very elegant, but It has a few hiccups like it will not play dual format disc the HD version, but it will play standard version.Go figure. Also rentals from netflix cross your fingers that they will play.

1 Star Stay away!
HD DVD is a dead format! Warner Brothers is going to stop producing HD DVD discs soon. Do a search and you will see many articles about this. The only studios that will be making HD DVD’s are Paramount/Dreamworks and Universal. Disney, Buena Vista, Sony, Warner Brothers, New Line, MGM, and Lionsgate all release movies exclusively on Blu-ray.

Do yourself a favor and avoid HD DVD players. The reason the prices are so cheap is that Toshiba knows it is dead and is probably clearing out remaining inventory. You’ve been warned!

4 Stars Long live HD DVD!
It’s sad, HD dvd has died a premature death.I don’t think it was given a fair chance against Blu Ray( Warner Bros and Walmart saw to it).I always had this sneaky feeling that Toshiba knew the end was near and began to cut back on production costs(look at the company’s HD-A35 as compared to HD-XA1,XA2).The HD-A35 was built to a price and it showed.

As for the HD-XA1,pictures never did it justice. You must see it for real and you’ll appreciate what the market is going to miss.

Picture quality is superb.I use a Sony full hd lcd tv and maybe the Sony actually flatters the HD-XA1.

If you can put up with the minor problems(long bootup, firmware updates)

go for it.

1 Star Dont buy this player
Frustration after frustration. Bad customer support. It’s a waste of money. The lens goes bad after about a year and Toshiba is laughing all the way to the bank!! The discs dont work and Universal will do nothing for you. NOT READY FOR PRIMETIME.

                  Buy/More Info

2 Stars ghost bars/gray bands ruin otherwise beautiful TV
I got this just before Christmas 06, was very excited when I got it. First 10 minutes were of sheer awe and happiness of a kind rarely duplicated. Then, I sat down to watch Lawrence of Arabia on it. Within about 20 minutes of the movie, I noticed that on the big desert scenes, or the sunrise/set scenes, I could see these strange gray bars/bands running vertically on the TV. The horizontal location is approx where SD TV would letter box to, they were on both sides (but worse on the left). So you don’t notice it on SD content, but if you are viewing wide content, you see it. The appearance is like someone draped very thin gray cloth over parts of the TV, definitely not something you’d expect from a $3300 TV. No, I am not talking about the thin wires in old Sony Trinitron TV/monitors, those can be ignored because they are very very thin, these are like bands like 4″ wide.

Anyway, after a month and a half of waiting for a replacement to come to the dealer I bought it from, I finally got fed up and exchanged it for a Samsung LN-S4695D. Yes, it is a cheaper TV, my dealer was being a jerk, he wanted more money for any other TV. But, at least now, I can enjoy the HDTV without these annoying gray bands, which is something you think would be expected for the price of these TVs.

I was especially disappointed since the 47LZ196 is NOT Toshiba’s budget TV, it is their TOP of the line LCD TV. And to have these sort of image quality issues is just not acceptable.

Now if you look around, there is talk on various forums (avsforums most notably), that models with a build date after Dec 06 didn’t have the banding issue. Mine was Sept 06 FYI.

Aside from this problem, the TV was gorgeous, no complaints about other aspects of the TV, just the banding was killer.

1 Star Great picture before it goes black
I bought this TV because I wanted a quality product..This TV has a great picture and the salesman claimed it was the best Quality available but after 1 year the picture is black. $400 to fix it – BUY A SONY or go to Wal-Mart and buy a cheap flat screen. This does not seem to be isolated to this model but a Toshiba problem and Toshiba seems to look at is as the consumers problem.

5 Stars Home Theater
This is a terrific TV. The HD picture is gorgeous. We had one possible issue with our Verizon FIOS service, and Toshiba sent a tech to check things out within about 2 hours of our calling (there was nothing wrong with the TV…it was a tricky FIOS installation in our older home). The controls are fairly easy to navigate (they allow for programming several peripherals), and the manual answers most questions. We are considering another Toshiba HD for elsewhere in the house

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Quick’n Dirty
I saw this TV at a local dealer. It was setup right next to Sony’s XBR6 46″ TV. By comparison the picture quality is very similar. If you disagree with this, you live in a fantasy dreamland where spending more money will magically make your TV watching experience better (at the expense of your new found inability to sleep at night). Sony is the crowned king of HDTV, specifically in their ability to upscale smaller signals (480i, standard definition). While I found the picture quality to be arguably the same as the Sony, the price was not. This TV costs about $400 less than a 46″ XBR6.

So, I bought this and took the chance on a TV that has relatively little information on the net about it (i.e. reviews from CNET etc). I bought it primarily for internet video streaming and playing a standard signal (480i) – with the hopes of one day upgrading to full 1080p in the future. The related feature in this TV is Toshiba’s “Resolution +”. It looks way better than standard def that I’ve seen on other TVs. Period.

Another concern I had was the 240hz effect that is NOT true 240 frames per second. There is 120hz with a back-light flicker effect that is supposed to help eliminate motion blur. The salesman did not offer a demonstration of this feature before I purchased the TV. So, I created my own: Using a computer as input through a component cable, I set up a windows screen saver – scrolling text. You can toggle this 240 clearview on and off to see the difference. I am happy to report that there is in fact less motion blur with the feature enabled. If you pay $250-$300 extra for a feature you had better be getting your moneys worth. I think having at least 120hz is right for the price. I cannot say whether the additional 240 clearview that this tv performs is anything to really shout about.

Beyond that, the quick’n dirty is that the picture quality is top notch for this generation (especially with a standard def signal). There are a number of features which make this TV a good buy. I consider those to be icing on the cake really. In summary:

PROS:

Top notch picture quality for the 2008 generation of LCDs

Top notch upscaling of standard def signals.

Plenty of connectivity and many fun features like the USB and SD card.

– NOTE: this TV will play DIVX movies (yah you pirates know what i’m talking about) straight from the USB input.

Very easy to use setup and menu.

Price is much lower than the name-brand alternatives.

CONS:

Glossy Screen

Thick Bezel trim

Bezel has this kinda ugly white pattern on it – who ever decided to add this needs to quit their job… ya you know who you are.

5 Stars Great picture and color
I went to best buy to actually compare the latest generation Panasonic and Samsung Plasmas. I saw this TV and it really stood out as by far the best LCD color and picture. It is a crapshoot in the stores with funky lighting, inconsistent video sources, and callibration but this is what I saw. Much better than the Samsung LCD and LED tvs and the Sonys. In fact, it was better than the Samsung plasmas. The only thing that matched it was the Panasonic two top plasmas – the U series was about even and the G series plasmas had the best picture in the store, with the possible exception of the Pioneer Kuros, but it was just slightly better than this TV and the Panansonic has a cheap plastic looking frame design. I came home and had to look up the Toshiba, as I had never seen it mentioned in the reviews of ConsumerReports, CNET and HDGURU, my typical “advice” sources online. Off angle viewing seemed very good as well. There was no sound on, so no idea on that and I couldn’t tell on the glare – not as good as the Panasonic G series, but at least equal to everything else I saw.

4 Stars Good TV for the price
Got my TV from Amazon today. The carrier (CEVA) is not too friendly compared to BestBuy guys. Since I paid Amazon some hundred bucks less and no shipping fee, that might be understandable.

If you dig previous reviews, people complained about thick frames, and it’s very true. These frames are thick and sturdy! The carrier accidentally swing the TV and one corner of TV hits the wall. Well, there left a hole in the drywall but the TV is not even scratched.

The screen glares a lot because I have two big (6′x8′) windows and plenty of sunlight in the room. I’ll need to use the blinds in order to watch TV in the day. The sound performance is, well, it produces sounds. It’s time to shop receivers and speakers for home theater experiences.

This TV has an USB port that plays DivX, XVid, MPEG-2 through USB port (unfortunately no HD contents). Yes the TV is capable of doing 1080p if you have an external source. Internal media player does not support HD video/audio codec of any kind.

I’ve connected a Windows 7 PC to this TV via HDMI, and, wow, my eyes are really open The display is sharp and clear, and audio is also passing through without any problem. The performance of display is very good. Compared to my friend’s Sony and Samsung, my personal feel is that this TV is as crispy, if not better, as its competitors.

What I dislike about this TV must be its user interface (on screen menu and remote control), which is light years away from Sony. It’s not only confusing but also slow in response. The user manual is also written poorly. I’m glad I’m geeky enough to figure things out myself.

In short, this TV is pretty good albeit it has some rough edges. If you know how to configure things, it’s a pretty decent bang-of-buck choice of building a modern home theater.

5 Stars Excellect TV and value
I’m a little puzzled by some of the comments appearing in other reviews regarding the TV’s size and bezel width. I don’t know what other folks are measuring, but the Lagoon style framing is not particularly wide and the TV measured with a tape measure is 46″ outside to outside horizontally, the diagonal is 47″ viewing area.

As a TV plugged into an HDTV cable box, the unit came up and set up in a couple of minutes on component or HDMI connection. The image is very bright, clear and colors are very vivid. The CrystalCoat high contrast screen coating does a great job of killing reflections even in a room that has a good deal of natural daylight sreaming in through lots of windows. On HDTV, the screen is completely filled with no odd bars, lines or other distractions.

The sound system was ordered separately and will not be in for a few more days, so my current experience is with the TV’s sound system which is clear, distortion free and with a lot more output than a Sharp big screen we have in the house.

Consistent with other reviews, delivery took literally a few days by general freight, the package was in perfect condition as were the contents. The driver parked an eighteen wheeler on our narrow mountain road and handtrucked the TV 300 feet up the driveway and right into the living room without us having to ask. Polite and good service. The TV was unboxed by opening the top, laying the carton on the TV’s back and sliding it off. The TV only weighs 50 lbs. Price was $200 less than local retail and no sales tax.

We are very happy with the product and Amazon.

5 Stars Great TV for a great price!
I searched around and has narrowed it down to a Sony or Toshiba. This TV has met all my expectations. Several features that I really like. The effect of 240 Mhz motion flow. Also the TV up converts regular cable pretty well. The last feature I really liked is it compensates if you the TV goes to commercial that is a lot louder. For the price you can’t beat the picture and features.

                  Buy/More Info

With a remarkably slim bezel design, Motionflow 120Hz for the reproduction of smooth, lifelike images, BRAVIA Engine 2 and ACE for deeper blacks and crisp shadow detail, this TV’s sensational design is only matched by its picture. But phenomenal image quality and show-stopping design isn’t all. The KDL-40Z4100 also includes DLNA compatibility so you can access your digital photo collection over your home network (additional DLNA components required; sold separately). DMex is also on board for an optional digital connection to innovative expansion modules like the BRAVIA Internet video link for exciting web-based content. The Digital Media Port (DMP) is included for connecting your portable digital audio devices like iPod and Walkman music players.

5 Stars Sony Bravia 40″ TV w/120hz refresh
Very nice picture and a new thin screen design. Has almost all the extra features of the XBR with only two exceptions that I don’t care about. Not too thin like the new Samsung which seems flimzy and subject to easy damage. All the input and output choices you could want including an Ethernet port, USB, 4 HDMIs, etc. If I had to pick a weak point, I would say the sound is not as good as advertised which is unusual for Sony but I don’t depend on the internal speakers anyway so I don’t care. Over all, a great TV with excellent picture and good quality sound, just not the simulated 5-channel performance that is advertised.

Can anyone who owns this Z series TV with the silver bezel comment on whether it is actually stainless metal or just silver-colored plastic? Thanks!

excellent product, WholesaleAV was the cheapest place to get it from Amazon listing. I saved over than $400.00 than if I have bought it from a retailer like Sears or Best Buy.

5 Stars Very happy in all respects
Couldn’t be happier with my Sony 40″ Z – actually was not really prepared for the impact it would have on my viewing. Picture is stunning, and the sound much better than other brands I checked out in this price range. As others have said, I was leary about a purchase of this amount being made online, but Amazon stands behind their products.

Have received several comments about the sleek appearance too, which is always nice…

5 Stars Amazing picture quality
Our old tv we had for the past 19 years went out and my husband was over joyed. We looked at all of the latest mfg/models and the Sony Bravia Z series stood out from all of it’s competition. The TV was delivered to our home within 72 hours and the delivery company CEVA provided white glove service hands down with the install/setup. The picture quality is amazing and it can be seen perfectly from all angles. The silver trim looks sleek and you have no finger prints to worry about. All channel changing is done through our DirectTV remote and our family and friends can’t stop commenting how awesome the picture quality is.

This TV was purchased from Amazon and not any of the 3rd parties that sell off Amazon. I’m 100% satisified with my purchase and CEVA with the white glove service they provided. Amazon is a company you can trust with small and large purchases.
