You’re happy with your widescreen HDTV. Did you know that the discs available for rent and sales aren’t really HD compatible? Even if they were, you wouldn’t appreciate the benefits from your current DVD player that’s designed to play discs at up to 480p resolution. HDTV is 720p – 1080i – 1080p display capable. Toshiba’s HD-XA1 is the first player to play HD-DVD media and that’s really important for widescreen HDTV owners. Virtually all the DVD videos sold or rented are capable of displaying 480p resolution. An HD-DVD is capable of displaying 720p and 1080i High Definition resolutions resulting in even better images than you’ve ever seen on your TV. On HDTV models that are capable of HDTV display, the HD-AX1 can deliver 1080p interpolation when connected through the HDMI port. It will also play current DVD and CD at their maximum output but only HD-DVD will bring you the high-definition that you’re looking for. HD-DVD is the next generation format and it’s here. This is where home-theater realizes its potential. Enhanced Black Level (0IRE / 7.5IRE Selection) Letterbox / Pan & Scan Support Built-in Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS and DTS-HD Decoders for surround sound / Dolby Pure HD Compatible (2 Channel) HDMI Audio support up to 5.1 L-PCM / 5.1 Channel Bass Management Dynamic Range Control Allows MP3 and WMA Playback on CDR and CDRW Connections – Front Panel – 2 USB Terminals / Rear Panel – 1 High Definition Multimedia Interface (ver. 1.1); 1 ColorStream Pro Component Video (gold plated); 1 S-Video (gold plated); 1 Composite Video (gold plated); 1 Stereo Analog Audio (gold plated); 5.1 Multi-Channel Analog Audio (gold plated); 1 Coaxial Digital Output (gold plated); 1 TosLink Optical Digital Output; 1 Ethernet 10/100 Port; 1 RS-232C Approximate Unit Dimensions – Width – 17.72 x Height – 4.33 x Depth – 13.39 / Approximate Unit Weight – 16 lbs

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Great High Definition player
I’ve owned this player for over 1 1/2 years and after the initial firmware updates it has been flawless and even quicker to load now (which was one of it’s largest drawbacks).

I know you’ve read the so called complaints about it only out-putting 1080i signal, but if you have a quality 1080p HDTV it just de-interlaces the signal and you see a full 1080p picture anyway.

I’d have given this 5 stars but it still is just a little slow to start-up, not real bad just slower then a regular DVD player is.

I own both a PS3 and this HD DVD player and while I really like my PS3 my XA1 still delivers a better upscaled picture of regular DVDs (not huge but still better).

Most of the negative reviews are just Blu-Ray supporters posting with hidden agendas or people that were not aware of the need at first for firmware updates or the few problems with early HD DVDs and combo DVDS and got impatient and frustrated.

2 Stars impressions of unit
Unit looks very elegant, but It has a few hiccups like it will not play dual format disc the HD version, but it will play standard version.Go figure. Also rentals from netflix cross your fingers that they will play.

1 Star Stay away!
HD DVD is a dead format! Warner Brothers is going to stop producing HD DVD discs soon. Do a search and you will see many articles about this. The only studios that will be making HD DVD’s are Paramount/Dreamworks and Universal. Disney, Buena Vista, Sony, Warner Brothers, New Line, MGM, and Lionsgate all release movies exclusively on Blu-ray.

Do yourself a favor and avoid HD DVD players. The reason the prices are so cheap is that Toshiba knows it is dead and is probably clearing out remaining inventory. You’ve been warned!

4 Stars Long live HD DVD!
It’s sad, HD dvd has died a premature death.I don’t think it was given a fair chance against Blu Ray( Warner Bros and Walmart saw to it).I always had this sneaky feeling that Toshiba knew the end was near and began to cut back on production costs(look at the company’s HD-A35 as compared to HD-XA1,XA2).The HD-A35 was built to a price and it showed.

As for the HD-XA1,pictures never did it justice. You must see it for real and you’ll appreciate what the market is going to miss.

Picture quality is superb.I use a Sony full hd lcd tv and maybe the Sony actually flatters the HD-XA1.

If you can put up with the minor problems(long bootup, firmware updates)

go for it.

1 Star Dont buy this player
Frustration after frustration. Bad customer support. It’s a waste of money. The lens goes bad after about a year and Toshiba is laughing all the way to the bank!! The discs dont work and Universal will do nothing for you. NOT READY FOR PRIMETIME.

2 Stars Sound but no picture after 1 year and 1/2 months
We had the exact same problem as some of the people here; we bought a 38″ Toshiba Regza LCD with DVD last March (it is now May) and just yesterday, the screen went completely black although we are still getting sound, and the TV menus still appear. At first, we thought it might be a problem with the cable, but after putting in a DVD and getting a similar result (sound but no picture) we came to the conclusion that it was the TV itself.

After only one year and one and a half months of owning this, we were in disbelief that such a new TV would go bad so quickly. We called the store we initially bought the TV from, and were informed that the best thing we could do to try and get it repaired. However, after calling the repair shop, they told us that even though our one-year manufacturer’s warranty had expired, we should still contact Toshiba, as this was still way too soon for a TV to malfunction.

After calling customer service -and telling them that we had unplugged our unit for five minutes, which we had done earlier- we were told that, if we got our set evaluated by a Toshiba repair center, we might be able to get the cost of repair and labor partially reimbursed, and that we might be eligible for an extended warranty. We were given the names and addresses of several authorized Toshiba repair centers in our area, and now, we’re just waiting to see what the verdict is (they said it would take about one to two days).

Hopefully, it will all sort out. After paying nearly $900 for the unit, it would be absolutely ridiculous to have that go to waste so quickly, when every other TV we’ve ever owned has lasted for five years, at the least.

5 Stars Best Bang for the Buck!
At the time I bought this, it was $708.00 with free shipping. It was the best deal around. Great TV with virtually no faults. Get the new version if you want full 1080P support, although the old model up-converts 720P to 1080P with no problems.

1 Star TERRIBLE TELEVISION
My Regza was used as a secondary television and it only lasted 15 months before the backlight inverter panel died…leaving me with an expensive yet useless piece of junk…NO HELP FROM TOSHIBA!!!!! Buy some other brand…it cannot get much worse than this.

1 Star Broke 6 months out of warranty – Thanks, Toshiba!
This TV has a tendency toward a fatal congenital malformation too costly to repair. Throwing mine out not only cost me 75,000 pretty pennies, but it gave me a huge carbon footprint for 2009. Uggh. Caveat emptor!

4 Stars Quality Set
Overall i must say that im very pleased with this set. I have compared it to other LCD televisions and found that it is easy to set up and its picture is equal to much more expensive sets.

4 Stars Nice dresser-top TV for the bedroom
I bought this for the bedroom. I dont know why others are having problems with the built in DVD player, because mine works perfect and I’ve had no other mechanical problems. The TV is light-weight and does not take up a lot of space on the dresser which is why I bought it. I can easily move it aside when dusting the dresser. It’s very good at picking up digital channels even with a regular antenna. I can only give it 4 stars for picture quality. When watching local channels you have to sit in front of the TV and look at the screen straight on. Otherwise,if you look at the screen from an angle, the colors & contrast seem faded. It is not the TV’s fault, but the type of screen cover the manufacturer has put on the TV. However, when watching DVDs, the colors & picture clarity are AWESOME from any angle. I now enjoy watching DVD movies in bed. In summary, it serves it’s purpose for watching TV in bed before I fall asleep and not taking up much room on the dresser. I would recommend it for the bedroom, the kitchen, or where space is limited. I would not recommend this for the living room.

5 Stars nice combo TV
lite weight and portable. we use it in our RV. Sturdy stand and nice picture. love the slot DVD player. the two combined, really saves space!

well made. we like the dual tuners. nice combo TV!

1 Star Locks up and must be unpluged to be reset
I purchased this unit for a guest room because my mother in law was coming to visit. By the time she came, it was past the 14 day return period for defective product. We only then found out that when changing channels, fast fowarding the CD etc. the unit would lock up and go to a black screen. You couldn’t even turn it on or off. The controls on the set or the remote wouldn’t work. If you unpluged it for 10 minutes, it would then work till it locked up again. As it was going to be a lot of trouble to send it to Toshiba to fix, I thought I could live with it. It got worse and I finally sent it back. Last night I went to Fedex to pick it up and it worked for a whole 10 minutes before locking up again. This time even unpluging it for over an hour didn’t help. In total because it is in the guest room it probably doesn’t have 20 hours total use on it.

I purchased it because I wanted a brand name that wouldn’t give me trouble and Sony doesn’t make small TVs any more. I paid $500. Even when it works the DVD sounds like it is tearing itself to bits and the controls take forever to do something after you push a button.

I now suspect that instead of getting a brand name TV I paid a brand name price for a third world junker with a brand name glued on to it.

It was so new when I got mine that there weren’t any warnings on the internet. Now there are a lot of people that have the same problem I have and one guy says he has sent his back twice with no results!!!

4 Stars Good Camper TV
Love my Toshiba TV. Use it in my camper and it works great. Requires a little more juice than I’d prefer but does the job. Speakers seem a little weak when surroundings are loud like when it’s raining and you’re in a camper with canvas bunks.

5 Stars Toshiba 19″ LCS HDTV with DVD player
This is my second Toshiba LCD HD Television with DVD player. I bought this item for the kitchen so that I can watch while I cook and there are some DVD that I enjoy the my spouse does not like. Great product.

Toshiba 23HLV87 23 Inch LCD HDTV with DVD Player

Now you can play your entertainment library on one versatile machine. Since the 23HLV87 has both a DVD player and a 23-inch screen, you won’t have to worry about connecting different electronic components in order to watch your favorite program. This convenience is matched only by its smart, stylish design.

The Value of LCD TVs
Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating.

This screen also has a pixel resolution of 1440 x 900 — which qualifies it to display 720p HDTV images. A built-in comb filter reduces digital artifacts produced by signal noise, making for more detailed images.

Full-Featured DVD Player
The 23HLV87 includes an integrated DVD player compatible with several disc formats: DVD Video, CD-R, CD-RW, VCD and DVD-R. This player is also DivX home theater certified, which means it display popular Internet video formats, such as DivX, AVI, and MPEG4. Similarly, MP3 and WMA-encoded music files recorded to disc will play nicely.

An interesting feature of this player is Digital Picture Zoom, which allows you to select and magnify an area of either freeze-frame or motion video.

Connections
The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. It also has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, so it can also accept traditional analog signals. It is also capable of the following connections:

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface): 1

ColorStream HD component video inputs: 1

S-video: 1

RF: 1

PC input: D-sub 15 with L/R audio

Digital audio out: 1 optical

Headphone jack: 1

RCA video inputs: 2 rear

Audio
The 23HLV87’s bottom-mount speakers deliver stereo sound, but for those with a 5.1 surround sound system, the 23HLV87 outputs Dolby Digital and dts digital audio from the DVD player through an optical port. A front headphone jack allows you to watch TV without disturbing those around you–perfect for late-night viewing. Toshiba’s StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels.

What’s in the Box
23HLV87 23-inch LCD HDTV and DVD Combo, unified remote control, VESA mounting holes, product manual

2 Stars Toshiba 23HLV87
Bought this for the kids playroom. Perfect size. Picture is fine for kids shows and movies. We mounted it on an adjustable/tilt wall bracket. (Without the tilt mount the picture was horrible when watched at an angle from below – lying on the floor looking up). One week after the 1yr warranty expired the DVD would not eject from the player. Unplugging the unit for a few hours fixed the problem. Hopefully it won’t happen again.

2 Stars Its Good while it lasts
I bought this product on sale at Circuit City in Oct. ‘07. I used it to play games and watch movies. I recently moved in to my apartment and when I unplugged my Xbox and hooked up my cable box it fried the HD RGB component inputs. Between parts and labor it would be almost exactly the same price as what I got the TV for. Do not buy this product.

5 Stars Great bargain
This TV/DVD combo is a good deal for me. It has a great picture and plays well.

4 Stars A very nice combo TV/DVD
After about four months of use, I like this TV/DVD player and it fits my needs well with the built-in functionality. This is a very flexible device and I use it in my home office (which is also a bedroom), which is my only work location. For a majority of a work day it is used as a 2nd computer monitor, which comes in very handy with the multiple windows I tend to need open. The size of the monitor at 23″ eases the stain. After work I use it as a TV or DVD player and find viewing is good from approx. 10 feet or so. My daughter sometimes guests out on weekends and gets a lot of use out of it. I would give it five stars but the remote is sometimes recalcitrant in activating channels or volume changes, detracting from a seamless operation.

4 Stars Great TV with many cool features!
The TV/DVD player is everything it said it would be. Great picture and quality. Many auxilary inputs and the DVD player on board free’s up a lot of space. Great tv for the bedroom with little space. Would want something bigger for TV viewing in a living room or den. Digital Tuner is slow but effective. The only features it doesnt have are audio out and smart sound volume control. Other than that a great product.

Immerse yourself in an unprecedented level of depth, color and clarity with this 40″ BRAVIA S-Series digital LCD HDTV. Beautifully styled and built to the highest standards, this television adds class to any room while its picture makes watching your favorite movies and TV programs even more enjoyable. With the BRAVIA Engine full digital video processor, you immediately notice improved color and sharper details, no matter what you’re watching. For uncompressed, all-digital audio and video integration, this HDTV features HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) and PC connectivity that lets you seamlessly hook up compatible PCs and components to the large display. An innovative light sensor also monitors ambient light in the room and automatically adjusts screen brightness, making it much more comfortable for viewing.

BRAVIA Engine Full Digital Video Processor
BRAVIA S-Series LCD televisions use Sony’s BRAVIA Engine full digital video processor for crisp and clear images. Several special picture enhancement technologies are integrated into the processor to create better gradations with more detail, enhance contrast, and dynamically improve color performance. > Digital Noise Reduction Circuits: Reduces block noise and mosquito noise by using pixel-level filtering to reproduce a clean and clear picture. And Motion Vector Noise Reduction reduces just the noise in the video signal for video further reducing unwanted noise and blur artifacts. Digital Contrast Enhancer circuit: Improves contrast by enhancing all areas from dark to bright in parallel with texture control providing a three dimensional picture. > Color Reality signal processing enables the expression of all the colors of life in vivid detail for dark and bright scenes. Details in dark areas of the picture are there, just like they are supposed to be.

Live Color Creation (featuring WCG-CCFL)
Live Color Creation is a special Sony function that achieves precise, wide color reproduction using a combination of advanced chroma signal processing algorithms. A special wide color gamut backlight (WCG-CCFL) is coupled with Sony’s Live Color Creation circuitry. The benefit is clear blues, natural greens and overall vibrant colors in all scenes.

Xross Media Bar (XMB) On-Screen Menu System
Xross Media Bar is Sony’s Emmy Award2 winning on-screen navigation that provides quick access to various set up functions and features. For instance selecting different types of media is made fun and easy by scrolling horizontally across icons until you find the type of media you are looking for. After selecting the media type, a list of its content appears as vertical thumbnails. Key set up menus and features work the same way. The main benefit of the XMB is that users can navigate through on-screen menus without taking their eyes off of their TV.

DMe Compatibility
DMex compatibility allows the connection and operation of a whole new category of products that is being developed by Sony (sold separately). The first of these products is the optional BRAVIA Internet Video Link module.

BRAVIA Theatre Sync
BRAVIA Theatre Sync reduces the hassle and time consuming job of powering up, changing the signal routing, and adjusting other functions to the simple push of one button. All you need to do is to connect BRAVIA Theatre Sync capable products to each other via one HDMI cable. The rest is easy. For instance, the One Push Play function activates by touching the play button on the remote and BRAVIA Theatre Sync takes over from there. The BRAVIA Home Theatre System and TV turn on. The DVD input on the BRAVIA Theatre system and TV activates. The TV mutes. And finally the DVD plays. There are two other BRAVIA Theatre Sync functions – One-Push Theatre Settings, which provides optimal picture and sound settings for movies and One-Push System Shut Down for turning off the entire home entertainment system.

BRAVIA Internet Video Link
The first DMex product to be introduced to the market is the DMX-NV1 BRAVIA Internet Video Link module (sold separately). BIVL, as it is affectionately called, can stream available Internet video from select content providers directly to your TV with a broadband connection3 without the need for a PC.

S-Force Front Surround
S-Force Front Surround is a virtual surround sound experience made possible using just two front speakers in select BRAVIA models. To accomplish this, Sony spent several years studying how our ears work. By understanding exactly how we recognize the origin, direction, volume and timing differences in sound right and left ear, Sony was able to create complex audio processing that delivers dynamic virtual surround sound without the need to bounce sound off walls and back to the listener.

HDMI and PC Connectivity
Designed for maximum versatility, Sony’s BRAVIA S-Series Digital LCD TV line is equipped with a comprehensive range of input interfaces. The HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. HDMI technology supports enhanced or High Definition video, together with multi-channel digital audio to provide matchless image and sound reproduction. The HDMI and PC inputs (HD-15-pin) offer easy connection to your PC, allowing you to use your high resolution BRAVIA S-Series Digital TV as a computer monitor.

Light Sensor-2
Intelligently adjusts the screen brightness to match the ambient light in a room, ensuring a comfortable viewing experience. In a dim room for example the screen automatically reduces brightness making it much more comfortable for viewing.
Freeze Function
Sony’s Freeze Function is a useful function that allows you to temporarily freeze the picture in a separate screen while the programming continues to display. This comes in handy when you want to copy a recipe, phone number, etc. that flashes too quickly across your screen. Simply touch the “Freeze” button on the remote control and copy the details down at your convenience.

5 Stars Awesome TV
I’m not going to write about all the technical stuff. That’s been done. We love this TV. We’re not high tech folks and could plug this in and watch. It does replace an older model tv so anything modern would look better but still it makes watching tv a better experience. It is very easy on the eyes too. Color is beautiful. We’re very pleased. Perfect!

5 Stars Sony 40″ Bravia HD TV
This is the best of breed for the 37-42″ sized HDTVs. The service I received from Amazon’s partner was excellent.

5 Stars Beautiful picture and great sound
I don’t know a great deal about televisions, other than this is our second SONY TV. The last one weighed about 70-75 lbs and still has a great picture, so my daughter has asked for it. I have never had any trouble with that old set, it is just getting to heavy for my husband’s back when it comes to moving around!

The HD picture we get is vastly more life-like than our old televsion. We don’t have any extra speakers and it sounds just fine… I just love it. It’s our first flat-screen television and we are tickled with the quality and we got a really great price $[...] which included free shipping and no tax. I look for bargains and most of the time I find it at [...].

5 Stars 40″ Bravia Sony HDTV
I purchased the 40″ Sony Bravia HDTV. I am very please with how it arrived. It is perfect in every way…..

5 Stars Watching the Movies with My Dad
For the longest time I had no TV. My twin Tiffany and I were raised all over the world by our old dad, a rock and roll roadie, songwriter, wine drinker and lover off all things wonderful. He gave us Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Madrid, introduced us to Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger when we were only little girls. He was the best, he was the greatest and he loathed TV.

He used to say there is no difference between watching the news, football, a sitcom or masterpiece theater — you’re sitting on your couch watching people in a box, who make a whole bleeping lot more money than you. Only he didn’t say bleeping. That was his way of saying, go out and live your life, don’t waste away your hours watching others.

However, my old dad loved the movies. No matter where we were, come the weekend, he took us to whatever silver screen was closest. I can’t tell you how many American movies I’ve seen dubbed into French and Spanish. My old dad loved a good movie.

And so do I. All my life I’ve lived without a TV, until now. At Costco I saw this Sony Bravia 40 inch TV and I really, really wanted it. But I have a small car and they don’t deliver. But Amazon does, so I ordered this baby, then went to Hollywood Video and got a subscription to their Video plan. Twenty-five dollars a month and you can rent all the movies you want. Such a deal.

However, I don’t have cable, don’t have Dish Network, don’t even have an antenna on my roof. No TV for me. Just movies. So Dad, if you’re reading this from wherever you are, don’t roll over in your grave, because when I turn out the lights at night and turn on this beautiful widescreen movie shower, it’s you I’m sitting with.

5 Stars Aweosme price and performance
Awesome price, picture quality and performance.

Great buy, works well with PS3 and 360.

5 Stars Great monitor!
I bought this monitor for my husband – it is much larger than I expected. It took no time to hook up and get running – the picture is wonderful – now he can work on the computer and watch TV as well. Great product!

5 Stars This one is a winner
I looks good and it does exactly what it says it will. Picture has true color. Delivery is speedy. What’s not to like?

4 Stars Surprisingly nice PC monitor and backroom TV
This monitor is the primary display in my “man cave.” It’s connected to a PC/DVR, an XBox360, and an over-the-air HD antenna. I also have a smaller 19″ 720p monitor that’s connected to a Verizon FiOS HD receiver.

As a PC monitor, I have no complaints – 1900×1200, nice brightness and sharp text. It works great as an HTPC DVR and Netflix monitor for across-the-room viewing, or watching video in a nice big window while using the rest of the desktop. It’s big enough to watch in a smaller room like my office, though it would be too small for our living room.

I use discreet speakers connected to the PC, so I can’t comment on the onboard speakers. The remote is simple and straightforward, but the TV is also compatible with my universal remotes.

The two HDMI inputs is nice, but the side-access port is better suited for temporary hookups; it takes away from the prettiness otherwise. I also like the VGA, DVI, Component, antenna, and RCA video/audio ports.

No real complaints to speak of. It just works, and my aging eyes like the 25.5″ real estate – it’s not much more than 24″, but it makes a difference.

5 Stars Great Over All, Weak Sound
Like some others, we found the sound to be lacking (the speakers face downward), but external speakers remedy this. The picture quality is great! We are very happy with our purchase.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Excellent performance for the price
I recently purchased this TV on sale for $488, and for this price, this TV is a bargain. The picture is clear even at 720p, with vibrant colors, reasonable (though not perfect) black levels and the variety of preprogrammed settings is easy to access, making simple work of changing between settings for movies, TV, and sports. The 6ms response time prevents much of the blurring in sports, though there is still the occasional ghost. The sound quality is clear, although the placement of the speakers does some muffling of the sound. I especially like the three HDMI ports, which may be useful as I update to more HD equipment. The remote is more responsive than previous versions, but it can’t be used with non-samsung products. That being said, the TV linked well to my CEC enabled Philips Progressive Scan DVD Player w/ 1080i Upconversion, DVP3962/37 synced with the TV painlessly. It does not have the highest tech features, but what it does have works very well. For the price, I have not been disappointed.

5 Stars Good Value HDTV
I’ll admit, I’m a big Sony devotee and usually love their products – but – I bought a 32″ Sony Bravia at Sam’s Club a couple of months ago and was quite disappointed. Even after a thorough tweaking – the colors were dark and muddy and the definition was middling. My Sony had a prolonged start up time and a painfully slow response to the remote – which seem to be common complaints. After about a month, the Sony started acting weird and would freeze up on certain channels – requiring shutdown and repeat power up. Understandably, the Sony went back to Sam’s for a refund.

At that point, I was disenchanted with HDTV and went back to watching our old CRT TV. My wife finally prodded me into shopping for a replacement. Sony was no longer in the running but I had read good reviews for Samsung and found the LN32A450 on sale at HH Gregg for well under $500! I compared it side-by-side to other 32″ HDTV’s in the store and found its performance as good as most and better than many costing several hundred dollars more. Colors were vibrant and definition was very good. Set up out of the box was easy and performance, so far, has been great. My only complaint: the remote is a bit big and cumbersome. Although I’ve had it less than a month – I’m impressed and would definitely pick it over similarly equipped HDTV’s – including Sony……

4 Stars Samsung 32 Inch 720 LCD
Have been extremly pleased. Easy to set up and fantastic delivery time. There is a delay when you turn it on of a few seconds however one gets use to it. Great picture quality. In comparing this set to the 1080 version could not tell the difference nor was the difference worth the additional cost.

Only unknown how will we feel in time.

1 Star Abyssmal Customer Service
Google “Samsung Customer Service reviews” before you buy any Samsung USA product. If you have to deal with them you’ll wish you’d bought another brand. Feeling lucky?

3 Stars Deceiving model number
The item was offered as model #LN32A450 which is the model I wanted. The model delivered was #LN32A455 which is the REFURBISHED version of the model advertised. EBAY should insist that refurbished equipment be clearly indicated in the posting and that the true model number to be delivered be indicated, thus alerting the buyer that “something’s different.”

The product works well. I only hope it lasts.

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Disappointment
I bought this about 6 months ago and loved it till it just stopped working. It turns it self off and on till it eventually craps out. The only way to turn it off is to unplug it. Could barley understand the customer service rep due to lots of background noise on her end so I finally hung up and went online. I have to pay to ship it to NJ, who knows when I will see it again.

5 Stars Very nice TV
As others have said, the sound isn’t the best on this television but then, it’s a small, inexpensive TV, so one shouldn’t expect the same sound as on units costing ten times as much. I have not tried external speakers but may do so at some point. Other than that, the picture is good. At first we didn’t like the pictue much, but we sharpened the picture via the menues, and now the picture is to our liking. The TV scans for new channels much more quickly than our year old set by another maker. Furthermore, the remote is much more ergonomic than our other one. The numbers are on the upper part of the unit. They were on the bottom of our old unit, meaning you couldn’t hold the remote in one hand and change the channel with the fingers of that same hand. With this remote, it’s possible to do so. Viewing the screen at an angle isn’t a problem unless one the screen from almost 180 degree angle. In short, we are very plased with this TV

1 Star Poor quality and warranty service
After owning the TV for about 2 months, it developed a high-pitched whine from the back of the set (not the speakers). Samsung told me that it was a faulty power supply unit. Since it is more than 30 days old, Amazon wont do an exchange, and my only option through Samsung is to pack and ship the TV (at my own expense) to their repair facility in New Jersey (I live in Washington DC). So in order to make my (now 5 month old) TV work, I have to pay about $120 to ship it out for repairs that will take from 5 to 8 weeks. Strongly recommend that you look for a different brand with better quality control and more reasonable warranty service.

4 Stars Great
I gave this as a birthday present. Recipient is pleased and uses it in a small room. My take is that the picture is really crisp and clear, but that the sound quality is not the greatest. That is, sounds “tinny,” like it’s sound out of a metal can. However, birthday boy seems to think it’s fine and that’s what matters.

5 Stars Samsung LCD TV
I’ve had this tv for about a month now and am very pleased with it’s performance. The picture is much higher quality and the sound is great. I was working with a specific space size and this one fit the bill. It was and is a great choice.

4 Stars Almost perfect
This is really an excellent monitor and TV….very fashionable, great to look at even when it’s not on. But seriously..the viewing angle on this thing can be a huge pain! If finding a good position for it won’t be an issue, then go ahead and pay for this beauty.

2 Stars Not a good choice for TV
This may be a fine monitor but as a TV it has several drawbacks:

1) The VERY narrow viewing angle. I read other reviews and thought they might be overly critical but once I set it up I realized how horrible the viewing angle is.

2) The poor sound quality. Again I read the reviews but assumed the reviewers were being too picky. The sound is akin to a cheap little clock radio.

3) The on screen menus are too small for a TV that will be viewed from 6 feet away.

All the above criticism apply to using the as a TV.

As a PC monitor it seemed fine except it lacks height and pivot adjustments

ALSO: I’m surprised that Amazon is hiding it’s return policy for monitors under the heading “See more technical details”. Come on Amazon this is blatantly deceptive. I’m surprised Amazon has pulled a fast one here. I’ll have to rethink where I buy stuff based on the little stunt.

PLEASE REVIEW THEIR RETURN POLICY AS AMAZON WILL NOT ACCEPT RETURNS FOR ANY OF THE ISSUES I DESCRIBED!

5 Stars Great TV/Monitor
This was one of the simplest monitor’s/tv’s to set up. Just make sure you tighten the screw underneath the stand and the TV will be sturdy.

I use a Galaxy HDMI (1.3b) cable to connect my Dell 1737 Laptop to the Samsung T240 HD. The display is gorgeous and is extremely intuitive to adjust. I just click menu on the remote and adjust the settings to my heart’s desire.

The sound is fine. I don’t hear any buzzing or tinny sound from the speakers.

I watch TV in 2 ways: 1.via the monitor from a high definition TV tuner USB stick 330 (with antenna) I bought from Kworld:

http://www.amazon.com/Kworld-ATSC%252fNTSC-Hybrid-HDTV-Tuner/dp/B000OXJK4K/ref=cm_cr-mr-title

2. via the TV from the super cheap budget TV antenna I bought, which gives me 74 free over the air digital channels, many of which are in 1080i format:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103077

There is a source button on the remote which allows one to switch from monitor to TV and back to monitor instantly.

Some colors fade on the monitor when you view it from the side, so it’s best to sit in front of the monitor.

For this price, this monitor/tv is an absolute bargain.

5 Stars A good monitor/tv
I’m very happy with this choice because this samsung replaced crt flat screen 19″ samsung that still working almost like new some 8 years of service,I saved lots of dollars buying a refurb,It bothered me a little bit ,but when I got it its worked damn good I’m glad I bought it,ie if need a tv and a monitor in same room to save space.

4 Stars excelent samsung hdtv 24 inch refurbish
ive bought refurbished tvs from amazone they were in new condition and worked very well all samsung products i also bought a ssamsung suround sound system and the wireless receiver didnt work but samsung warenty fixed it for free
