User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star My LAST Toshiba…
I purchased this set 14 months ago for a bit less than $2,000. The panel went bad a few weeks ago. Repair costs would have been in excess of $2,500. The best I could get from Toshiba was “We are sorry” (even though they wasted 30 minutes of my time spitting it out). It was tough to “write off” but I did so. They obviously do not need my business; I surely do not need any more of their products. Moral…..buyer beware.

1 Star Toshiba Service Stinks
We were very pleased with this television until a couple of months ago, when it began having vertical lines across the left, and then right, sides of the screens. I sent Toshiba an e-mail about it in March, when the TV was about 2.5 months out of warranty. We tried some troubleshooting and when that didn’t help, they said to take it to get an estimate. The technician said the entire LCD screen had gone bad and would need to be replaced, at a cost of $3,078! (I paid $1983 for it.)

Toshiba told me to send them a letter requesting assistance. A few days later they told me, sorry, it’s out of warranty, and they wouldn’t do anything about it. I explained that since the ENTIRE LCD SCREEN had gone bad after just 14 months, it was clearly defective. And it’s not like I was having to pay a couple of hundred dollars for a part – the entire TV was scrap. Nothing I said would change their mind.

I understand that it’s out of warranty. What I don’t understand is them acknowledging that there was something wrong with the LCD screen, that it should have lasted MUCH longer, etc., but not being willing to stand behind their products, do the right thing, and at least provide a partial refund or SOMETHING.

That was my third Toshiba television purchase, but it will be my last. They have lost a customer for life, and I hope if you’re reading this, you will pay attention to this – they WILL NOT stand behind their products and do the right thing.

5 Stars Good solid LCD HDTV
I bought it in May 2008 and waited until Dec 2008 to give a review. After 6 months of usage, I am fairly satisfied with its performance. There is nothing fancy in terms of feature. I am actually glad Toshiba get rid of the picture-in-picture. Let’s face it, how often do you watch two TV shows at the same time. The nicest thing about this TV is its slim size. In terms of picture quality, it is as good as you can get from any HDTV. I hooked it up with AT&T U-Verse to watch football games in 1080i HD. A reminder, currently all US HDTV signals are 1080i. 1080p is the future, but we have to wait. Honestly, I can’t tell if there is any difference between this TV and other brands. Toshiba’s replacement for this model 46RF350U, which is 60Hz, is almost the same TV but with 120Hz. Unless you watch Blue Ray DVD exclusively, 60Hz is enough for 2 more years.

3 Stars Pink Vertical Lines
Hello to all,

First of all I’d like to tell everyone I enjoyed the Toshiba 46rf350u very much. It fit perfectly in my custom cabinets…this was one of the big factors in buying this model. Unfortunately I had some pink lines appear on each end of the tv, 7 months after my purchase. Customer Service was very helpful and sent a service tech. out but could not fix the issue and took the tv to the shop. It could not be repaired and Toshiba offered a exchange or my money back. I decided to get my money back because this was the only tv that would fit the cabinet. Overall a good experience with CS.

5 Stars Works and looks Great!
I have used this product for more than six months. I has an excellent picture. I have not noticed any pixellation. It is on 10-12 hours a day. The only video it sees is from my DirecTV HD box via HDML. I am fully pleased with my purchase.

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Toshiba takes the money and runs!
Well, the product is good unless the cheapo internal dvd player breaks…. and then it is worthless. Meanwhile in repairland, the dvd part is on back order but Toshiba could care less because they already have my money.

5 Stars Great price and easy setup
I have had this TV for six months now and I have not had any problems. Setting the TV up to work with my HD cable box was a breeze. It would be hard to beat the video quality and sound at this price.

3 Stars Good TV, bad DVD player
I’m fully satisfied with the TV (picture quality, menu features, etc), but the built in DVD player has broken twice within the year. Luckily the 1-yr manufacturer’s warranty is pretty good and they come to your home to fix it – but it’s a major hassle. The repair guy said that this happens relatively often to the Toshiba TVs and they plan to stop producing the sets with built-in players. You’re better off buying a TV-only set and get a nice swanky high-def DVD player to plug in!

1 Star Lucky if it lasts
TV was nice for a year and a half. The video board burned out which in turn blew out the lcd screen. Was only used about 4 hrs a week. Repair shop said it would cost as much as a new TV to fix. The tech also said it’s poor design by Toshiba making the video board and screen as one part. Be careful, it’s cheaper than the higher quality for a reason. My Sony has been around for 7 years, no problems.

I had extended warranty and they refunded me the entire cost of the TV instead of bothering with fixing it. That was surprising, so it must be a known common problem with Toshiba.

5 Stars Wonderful picture…
I had purchased this set back in February 2008 and wanted to review after having it for awhile.

This set with DVD player was purchased for our bedroom. The picture quality is gorgeous and vibrant. We have just moved and until we get our 42 inch Panasonic on the wall we have been using this one in the living room. It more than suffices! It looks amazing, that I could see someone using this one as a main tv if the room isn’t too large.

Unlike other LCDs, this one does not turn dark or grayed out when viewed from different angles. The picture quality is amazing. The colors are vibrant and bright and I feel as if it is able to get a “true black”.

As far as the DVD player… the reality is we have used it about 2 times; so I cannot review on the dependability. I have read and experienced that Toshiba DVD players love to conk out.

The frame is very sleek and sexy, just don’t touch it with your oily fingers! I wish I had purchased two when they were on sale because I can no longer find the combos anywhere.

Again, if you can find it for a good price, jump on it. You will not regret it. Also wanted to mention that this set picks up an unbelievable amount of HD channels (about 90) without a cable/satellite box. We have service, but we always love to test the capability of the television.

                  Buy/More Info

1 Star Be Careful
Great TV for as long as it works, mine lasted just 12 months. The screen went blank from one day to the other, can’t even access the menu. No wonder this TV has been discontinued, don’t pass up on an extended warranty.

5 Stars Great LCD HDTV and an outstanding value
Got it for $1,700 shipped vs. $1,900-$2,300 sold elsewhere. Great high definition picture and very good standard definition. The best viewing angle of any LCD screen that I’ve seen. Sound quality is atypical, with good simulated bass. Built-in virtual surround sound eliminates the need for a home theatre system except for audiophiles. Like most LCD, it does not do black color well. Human skin tone looks cartoonish at closeup, a negative for this set. There is no blur motion, even with NASCAR. The on-screen menu is very easy to navigate, so no need to read the manual on the CD. Lots of connectivity options on the back and a few jacks on the side for camcorder (no HiDef.) Auto-sizing is always correct on screen size – unlike some other HDTVs that sometimes get it wrong. There is a green/red status LED so that I know whether the TV is actually on or in standby mode (less than 1W with EnergyStar.) The set is heavy at 110 pounds, but that also helps deter theft I reckon. The shining and narrow black frame is absolutely beautiful. Overall, I highly recommend this 52″ monster.

5 Stars great purchase
This television was a great purchase! The price is right and I am enjoying it very much!

5 Stars Sweet upgrade HDTV
I’ve wanting to dive into HD TVs for quite some time now. I ordered this beautiful, glossy, thin behemoth. I ordered the TV for only $1300 versus where I originally found it watching HSN selling for $2300. The product was ordered through Tiger Direct and I received the TV within one week. The packing stated the weight was 112 lbs. My tiny girlfriend and I were able to carry it around with ease though. No dead pixels or physical damage to the TV what so ever. I hooked up the HD cable, XBOX 360, and my surround sound system. I played Gears of War 2 & Halo 3 immediately. The colors were simply amazing except for the range of black. There was no blur during 10 hours of straight playtime. The sound wasn’t bad when I unhooked my surround sound for TV shows, but during the play of XBOX there was a difference not too big though. There are plenty of jacks on this TV and I’ve even hooked up my laptop to the TV with no problems at all. I can even sit away from the TV with a wireless mouse/keyboard linked to my laptop and can still read websites just fine. All in all I’m very happy with this purchase. Thank-You LG & Amazon

5 Stars LP52 TV
Got the flat panel fast, no damage, straight out of the package. Picture is fantastic. There is one small negative, which is so minor only the audiophiles will even notice it, but the sound quality is lacking in the low frequencies. I have it working with a surround sound systems so it doesn’t matter to me. However, that’s a characteristic of the product, not Amazon or the company I bought the TV from. They did just great.

Philips Mirror TV technology uses a special laminated film over the LCD screen to give the display a mirror reflection when the LCD is off and 100% light transmission when the LCD is on. The mechanical support is designed for simple frame interchangeability to meet the requirements of any decor. You want to enjoy sharper images. Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeable sharper picture. The high resolution of this display (2.4 million pixels – 1024 x 768) means that any high definition signal will look its best when displayed on this set. Connect any HDTV decoder (DBS, cable or off-air) to the HD component video inputs for the ultimate HDTV experience. 17MW9010 accepts multiple types of AV inputs – SD, HD, PC DCDi (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) eliminates the jagged edges that appear when standard interlaced video is viewed on Progressive Scan displays

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Sharp does not honor warranty
I owned this TV for a little over a year and now it is broken. The LCD screen is cracked and Sharp claims it can only be caused by physical damage, and will not pay for the repair. We never even moved the TV once it was installed over a year ago. As a matter of fact we were in the middle of watching it when we changed the channel all of a sudden the screen had all these verticle lines appear. We also have taken it to the Sharp authorized repair shop and they have verified that there is “No evidence of physical damage”. The best part is Sharp customer service claimed to have called the repair shop and were told something different. When I called the repair shop back to ask why they told two different stories he said that Sharp customer service had NEVER called, to ask about the condition of the TV. Since it is a small repair shop (only two guys) I think they would both know. Sharp has offered to sell me another piece of crap TV for a small discount, which I have declined. Basically Sharp sells crap and lies to its customers. Buyer beware! Besides, I just replaced this piece of crap Sharp with a Sony 46″, 120Hz and a four year warranty for $1400, and I am looking for a second LCD for our bedroom, I will never buy Sharp again!

4 Stars Sharp Aquos LC4285U
Excellent set. Picture is great. I had a little trouble with installation (not the fault of the set) and Sharp customer service was extremely helpful. If I have any criticism it is that the set does loose some brightness at angles.

5 Stars Great TV
After shopping around for awhile, I believe that the Aquos Sharp was the sweet spot for me. It may be true that Sony and Samsung are slightly better, but you pay more for them and I am not sure one can tell that much of a difference in the end particularly at the 42 inch size. I think Sharp is the next best and the price through Amazon was exceptionally good. I was worried about damage from shipping, but everything shipped just fine with no damage. The TV works wonderfully. I previously read that some sites rated the sound and standard definition viewing to be average at best. I think the standard definition and sound is perfectly fine. Besides, if you want really high sound quality you should get a surround sound system anyways.

I think this television gives high value for the dollar. I highly recommend it.

5 Stars Excelent TV
I have this TV for about 3 weeks now, is continuing impressing me every day on how good system is. I don’t have a cable, just an antenna on my balcony and I got @ 50 channels very good.

Yes the remote looks and feels low quality but that is not big deal for me.

Removing the channels is a little tricky but doable after spending some time.

I use the TV connected to my Laptop thru the HDMI and watching Netflix, this combination works grate, sound is transmitted to the TV and quality of the image is also good, not Cristal clear but works ok if you are coming from old TV’s.

I got mine from Dell as was on sell for $1199 free shipping and no interest for one year if you have a CC with Dell, I do. Yes Amazon is still better if you have the cash, I chose the one year option.

Overall I’m pleased with this TV hopefully will work for many years with no issues.

Marius

4 Stars Really a “Sharp ” TV that is a winner !
Great clarity and all the hype of high definition rings true with this television. I really enjoy the clarity of watching programs with outdoor locations because it simply makes best use of the technology.

The set up required a bit of thought but plug and play should be reserved for kids toys.

The next step will be to get a better sound system to attach to this device.

Shop for a ood price but this is a winner
