Sony Bravia V Series KDL 46V2500 46 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Pack in the sports, movies and games with an amazing backlit 46″ picture1, amplified and enhanced surround sound, and the convenience of sleep timer and picture freeze. Plug in your PC and up to 9 other components-including HDMI™-to create the full entertainment experience. And enjoy the quality and style that can only come from a Bravia™ TV.

Feature List BRAVIA Engine™ Full Digital Video Processor: BRAVIA™ V-Series LCD televisions use Sony’s BRAVIA Engine™ full digital video processor for crisp and clear images. Several special picture enhancement technologies are integrated into the processor to create better gradations and details, enhance contrast, dynamically improve color, and reduce image flicker.

Full HD 1080: There are a lot of ways to define high-definition but BRAVIA Full HD means you’re getting the best resolution that high-definition has to offer consumers. With Sony BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs, Full HD 1080 means 1920 x 1080 pixels and 1080p video inputs. Your lifestyle demands the best in high-definition and with BRAVIA Full HD 1080 products you get it.

1920 x 1080 Panel Resolution: When it comes to high-definition TV the pinnacle of performance is achieved by using 1920 x 1080 display panels. And BRAVIA V-Series televisions have them. Full HD 1920 x 1080 panel resolution with over 2 million pixels (more than twice that of 720p HDTV) is exactly what you need to reproduce the 1080p content that can be delivered by our cutting edge 1080p Blu-ray disc™ player. And working with BRAVIA Engine™ PRO everything from standard definition and high definition is upconverted to 1080p for a picture so real it’s like you’re actually there.

Live Color Creation System: Decades of television know how allow us to realize that an LCD TV is more than just the panel; it’s actually a system. Uncompromised picture quality starts with combining carefully chosen components and circuits to optimize system quality, among these are the color creation and processing functions. That’s what Live Color Creation is all about. It starts with the BRAVIA Engine™ PRO video processing system, which enhances primary colors and corrects half-tone colors for natural overall color. Next, a WCG-CCFL backlight using Sony’s phosphor formula delivers a specific spectrum of light designed to work with our specially formulated color filters. The combination of these three components creates deep, deep blues and natural greens for overall colors that draw you right into the picture itself.

High Contrast Ratio: Sony uses a dynamic backlighting system called ACE (Advanced Contrast Enhancement) on BRAVIA V-Series TVs. ACE automatically senses the APL (Average Picture Level) of the video signal and adjusts the intensity of the backlight for improved contrast. VESA test and measurement methods are applied yielding a contrast ratio of used 7000:1. This number represents the widest possible ratio between black and white contrast levels. Sony also measures their BRAVIA televisions with a more stringent method that measures the amount of black and white levels that can appear on the screen at the same time. This method yields a more real world measurement of 1300:1

HDMI™ and PC Connectivity: Designed for maximum versatility, Sony’s BRAVIA V-Series LCD TVs are equipped with a comprehensive range of input interfaces. The HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. HDMI technology supports enhanced or High Definition video, together with multi-channel digital audio to provide matchless image and sound reproduction. BRAVIA V-Series TVs include (2) HDMI 1080/60p inputs. The PC input (HD-15-pin) offers easy connection to your PC, allowing you to use your high resolution BRAVIA V-Series Digital TV as a computer monitor.

5 Stars Good TV Great price
Consumer Reports magazine directed me to this TV and said Amazon had the best price for it. After much research I found they were right. Although delivery was a little sketchy (didn’t have a set time and date so someone could be home) It worked out well after I found a note on my door where they tried to deliver and couldn’t. I just called the carrier and they brought it right back the same day. I’m so greatful they just didn’t leave it on the front porch. TV works great, no hassles, great service, no high pressure sales tactics. I will be dealing with Amazon again for some future purchaces. Thanks for a good shopping experience.

5 Stars Excellent for the money
I was very lucky to pic this up from amazon for $1500 delivered. While I was aware of the cloud effect that some have complained about, I tested immediately upon delivery and this unit was fine. Out of the box set up is simple – the inputs are easy to access. I have not tried the setup for the color yet, but the delivered basic has a slight red shift, but nothing terrible. What really stud out for me hen I evaluated this TV along side others is the crispness of the blacks and the detail in low light scenes. Of course, the colors are remarkable. All in all, one month after purchase I am extremely happy that I made this purchase

I have linked this to my computer with an dvi and hdmi output and the 1080p is remarkable. I don’t have an HDDVD or blueray to try that out yet.

5 Stars Perfect!
I have had a year now and could not ask for more. Add the price was great from Amazon, no tax and free shipping. Delivery company was awesome. Took it up the stairs in my house and told me to keep the box just in case. Got it one week after ordering. Whole purchase was a no brainer. Now I just got my Sony Blu Ray to go with it. There is no other…….when it comes to Sony.

5 Stars Spectacular picture quality at a great price
I was expecting very good picture on this set yet I was absolutely blown away by the amazing picture quality after we connected our HD Cable box to this set via HDMI. Tune into the Food Network or Discovery HD Theater and prepare to be stunned by the spectacular images on the screen. I find myself watching shows (documentaries, nature specials) that I never watched before. If you’re in the market for an HD set, you really don’t need to get a “high-end” (high-priced) model. This set has proven to be a great value. I don’t think it’s possible to get a better picture anywhere. It’s that good.

5 Stars LCD HDTV
I have had this product for several months. I am pleased with the quality of the picture and the tuner. The many inputs on the tv make it easy to set up and plug in my many accessories. The sound directly from the tv is acceptable, but it is very easy to run through my receiver for great sound.

Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 52XF550U 52 Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV

Toshiba 52XF550U is a full-featured HD LCD TV that’s practically all screen. This 52.0″ (measured diagonally) model combines Toshiba’s Super Narrow Bezel design with cutting-edge technology to deliver a beautiful picture in an equally beautiful package. With Full HD, there’s no need to scale down a 1080 signal: Full HD creates the pinnacle in picture quality. ColorBurst technology expands the number of available colors and improves the color accuracy. This significantly improves both color purity and color saturation. The combination of ColorBurst and superior video processing creates colors that are more vibrant, more natural, and more enjoyable. The advanced Anti-Blur system virtually eliminates motion blur without decreasing image brightness, or adding flicker. Images are now crisp and clear regardless of image motion.StableSound audio technology eliminates the annoyance of normal program volume being followed immediately by extremely loud commercial messages or drastic volume fluctuations while changing channels.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Best LCD I’ve seen to date
I have to echo what’s already been said here; the gloss of the screen is less than you’d find on a plasma but a little more than on the matte LCD’s, though the only LCD sets that I think are actually comparable to this one are the higher-end Samsung and Sony panels, and they both have glossier screens than this Toshiba.

Black levels are stunning, especially for an LCD. Hi-definition sources such as Blu-ray discs are absolutely amazing on this set, the image has that 3D feel to it and the colors definitely pop, though you’ll need to fix the settings to get things accurate and to make movies, especially hi-def movies, really shine.

Upscaled DVD from my PS3 looks mostly superb, though discs with poor source transfers can’t be helped all that much.

Games from the PS3 look amazing as well, it’s a huge upgrade from my old Sony 720p RPTV (LCoS), a KDF-46E2000, which was a damn nice set in its own right. The images, games and films are just a great deal sharper and have more of a life-like feel to them…the extra 6″ of diagonal screen size doesn’t hurt either.

If you start with the settings found at the following link and then adjust based on your room and preferences, you’ll have a solid looking picture without much trouble at all. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=14269299#post14269299

This is a great set, well worth under $2500.

5 Stars Very Impressed out of the Box
Just got this lcd last night and without even tweeking it yet I was very impressed by the color compare to the vizio 46 that I returned from costco.Comparing the two tv’s is not an option. Now I can see real blacks and the color is so amazing. How much more if I tweek it, but i dont have time right now due to busy work but I know it will be better when i start tweeking it with my calibration software. Like I said, just right out of the box I am very impressed… Im glad I chose this TV…For so many months of studying the next HDTV for me. THis is the exact TV I really wanted.

1 Star Annoying red pixel in the right of the screen
I wouldn’t recommend any Toshiba lcd tv’s. After a couple of months of use, a red pixel started to appear approximately 5 inches from the right panel, centered vertically. I called for support, and all they said that this was a “feature”; well, I call it a defect. I have a Sharp Aquos 32″ about 4 years old and a Pioneer 43″ plasma over 5 years old now, none of them have any problems. Stick with Sony, Sharp or Pioneer but stay away from Toshiba or you’ll be stuck with their “features”.

5 Stars There will never be a “perfect” HDTV, but…
I have searched far and wide for the “perfect” LCD HDTV for at least 2 years, and there isn’t one. If you think you’ve found one then do not go searching for Reviews — and stay away from the heavily-active Forums that discuss these items because you will become discouraged.

The first problem is in knowing what to look for. The next is in knowing what to avoid. The third is figuring out if any of this matters to you, in your situation, for your specific needs.

This Toshiba 52″ is the latest iteration of their top-line products. And if you’re into minimalism, it’s a stunner. The bezel is amazingly thin compared to other sets. Advantage? It allows you to fit a larger screen into your available space, if the conditions are right.

But, ah — the catch! Next out will be Toshiba’s super-light, super-thin sets that are 2″ less thick. Can you wait yet another year? You’ll never defat the “What’s Next” Catch-22.

It has every major feature you could think of, but I won’t go into the merits of these because you’ll soon find that beauty and “merit” are in the eye of the beholder. If you want easy setup, this TV has it. HDMI? It has 3 inputs and one output. Nice Black Levels — definitely, yes. Great color accuracy out-of-the-box — yes… to my eyes. I’m sure a professional reviewer will find fault with this compared to the Pioneer Kuro excellent line of plasmas.

Like every other set, does it come from the factory over-tweaked? Yes. It will take some research to fine-tune the picture. The darn conrtrast and backlight were set at 100% — which hurt my eyes terribly in a dark room. Is every LCD perfectly glare-free? — not this one. The reflections of overhead lights are annoying (like reflections off Scotch “Magic Transparent Tape”), but softer than any Plasma or Glass-fronted screen I’ve seen. The speakers on this set are nearly invisible and perfectly adequate (much more so than my 37″ Sharp).

If you insist on looking into the nitty-gritty, please note that — at this time — I’ve been unable to find any professional Reviews on this set. And it’s been out there in limited quantities for a few months. Finding it locally may be difficult. Why? Because the guys in the know are snatching these up as fast as inventory comes into stock. My purchase from Beach Audio was very easy and they communicated very well. But they are, technically, not an authorized Reseller. Their Distributor and Amazon both are, and I’ve been reassured that Toshiba will not simply walk away from their Warranty.

UltimateAVMag.com is working on a professional Review, right now — due out shortly. AVSForum has a raging online discussion that has most people very excited about this set — and it has gone on for months with some great insights and advice (even tweaking tips on how to squeeze out the best picture) — and no “This kills the deal!” discoveries, as happens on so many other seemingly worthwhile sets. These participants are not pansies. They’ll eat your lunch when it comes to discussing esoterica about these sets that you never knew existed.

But beware! These Forum settings can destroy the unprepared or uneducated casual visitor by nitpicking the least-likely of all problems, and blowing it completely out of proportion to most viewers experiences. Sometimes, you’ll wonder if these participants ever enjoy anything! Ahhh, the joys of fanaticism! Having said that, it is perhaps especially telling about this model that they have not found too many Achilles’ Heels… yet. Not too many people actually own this set (I do). When they hit the big consumer stream, this may all change as newer sets rise to the occasion. You cannot stop progress.

When turned to no picture, my set displays “brighter” dark regions in every corner. Some guys find that unacceptable, but I’ve only ever seen a true black on a Pioneer plasma. And I’ve never noticed these regions while watching any video or TV images. If these types of revelations bother you — DO NOT VISIT AVSFORUM!! Your enjoyment of ANY set may be doomed if you read these discussions too deeply. Or if you have a thin skin.

Biggest observation I can offer…

If this is your first “big” HDTV, please beware — the bigger you go, the worst your “normal” TV channels will look. Unless you invest in a Video Scaler (several thousands of dollars, although Gefen has one coming for HDTV that runs about $600) or an Audio-Video Receiver that includes an upscale HQV Processor (such as Onkyo’s TX-SR875, at slightly over $1,000), you will NEVER improve regular programming by buying a fancier or larger set. Most homeowners not versed in resolution and scaling issues will be frustrated and angry about this. I think it will become the Number One misleading “thing they never mentioned in the store” — where they probably only ever viewed demo discs of Blu-Ray movie clips.

You buy an HDTV for viewing HDTV content. NOT for improving SD or sub-par video or compressed cable source material. Blu-Ray movies will be so darned perfect, you may cancel your cable and FIOS and satellite movie bundles and decide to only rent Blu-Ray discs through great services such as Netflix. Local or piped-in HD stations will vary in quality. The good ones will knock your socks off — but poor video sources are MADE WORSE by large and expensive HDTVs, just as they are by the cheap ones. A few of these do offer better video processors, but there is no easy source to look at, telling you which ones they are. That’s where the Forums do help — some of these guys rip their sets apart and tell you which processors they found inside. Remember I mentioned the word “fanaticism”??

This Toshiba is one of the best LCDs available, so far (at least, until the professional reviews come out telling us Early-Adopters that we’re wrong). So stay tuned…

5 Stars Toshiba 52″ Masterpiece
This TV is a stunning LCD panel.

5:5 pulldown, great upconvert, small bezel, hdmi 1.3a for future…

I still can’t believe how good it looks.

If I had to say the negatives…

Panel is in between a plasma and lcd as far as gloss (I think they call it new matt or somethign)… It does reflect some light not as bad as plasma but it does reflect.

Inputs in back are kind of in a bad place for wall mount

Unit is 6 inches thick —

Positives are many – great blacks, great sports, great games…

Color settings in service mode are great…

Price at under 2500 is a steal — if you can find one…

Want a small LCD TV that still brings a lot to the (kitchen) table? The KDL-19M4000 is Sony’s answer. With three HD connections (including HDMI, component, and PC input), a sleek design, and the picture quality you’ve come to expect from Sony, the KDL-19M4000 is designed to give you the performance you want in a more casual package. Perfect for the kitchen or bedroom.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Typical Sony Quality & Great Reception
This is the second 19-inch LCD HDTV that I have bought, and the first Sony for this size.

I bought this white Sony to place in my kitchen where I have had a black Sharp 19-inch LCD HDTV (which I moved to a bedroom). Well first I found that the color is bright and the blacks are solid giving it an excellent picture. This white Sony is also a very attractive unit and perfect to have in a nice kitchen. It is also solid and easy to adjust how straight it stands up.

Plus, using the exact same rabbit ears from the Sharp HDTV it’s replacing in my kitchen, for over the air digital channels, the Sony has much better reception. I’m able to pickup more digital channels then I could with the Sharp.

I would certainly buy this Sony HDTV again.

3 Stars Just OK
This Bravia replaced a Sharp Aquos counter top model which developed a shadow on the screen after about two years of use. It is larger (about 4″) picture wise than the Sharp and was the largest set I could find that would stand on the counter and fit under an overhead cabinet. It runs off a Direct TV, non-HDTV signal.

Factory preset picture settings were just awful with a very dark picture and odd glossy flesh tones. I tried to adjust the picture a number of times but finally realized I was trying to get the colors and resolution I was used to on the Sharp, which the Bravia apparently won’t do. If my set had true factory picture presets I can guarantee anyone else buying this set will be spending a lot of time trying to adjust the picture.

In addition, unless you are viewing the set from directly in front and at set level the picture washes out excessively which is annoying since a kitchen set is usually viewed from a number of angles.

I would definitely recommend viewing and comparing this set in a store before purchasing. I will probably be looking for a replacement set and relegate this one to a guest bedroom.

5 Stars Another Milestone for TV Design
Many things impress me about this set. The picture quality is incredible once you get it tweaked the way you like it. As good or better as any TV I’ve ever seen, including the 42″ plasma Panasonic we got a while back. The blacks are amazing for an LCD and colors are true no matter what color temperature you choose. The reception was startling. I got only a few channels off the air before. None of them were ever clear. With this set and an old pair of rabbit ears I got about twenty channels and they all looked better than DVD’s. I had no idea digital TV was going to improve things this much. At first I only set up the analog channels and they were fuzzy just like before. Then I realized there was another step to the auto programming and did it again. This time the ATSC channels were picked up and like I said, I was stunned. I’m in a rural area so I never expected it to be this good.

As people said before, the sound is quite good. Also better than any small TV I’ve had before and plenty good enough I don’t feel a need to add speakers. Lots of inputs including HDMI, well placed controls and a well placed headphone output. The menu is easy to use and the remote is wonderful, uncluttered and has every function you could need. I found I could get everything on my cable system without the need for their box (except on-demand and pay per view). They (comcast) use some funky locations though. The set picked up the same channels on several different bands. I don’t know why they do this but it makes it hard to remember where stuff is. I took the time to write down the numbers for every channel as a reference, using the first band they appeared on. I pretty much only watch news and weather so the favorites menu is a godsend, though I wish it had more than eight presets.

By far the one aspect of this set that impresses me the most is the styling. Sony has always been an innovator in both picture technology and TV set design. Their XBR series was a milestone when it was introduced. At that year’s CES show the Toshiba Rep told me it would take the rest of the industry years to catch up to Sony (again). One of the cool things about the XBR is it didn’t look like every other TV being sold at the time. It even came in a rose color (I think they called it Mauve). This 19″ LCD is another example of the brilliance of Sony design. If you look at the TV’s sold here at Amazon, they all have a pedestal base and a wide aspect ratio with a black frame around the display. They all look the same, and in fact, they all look exactly like all the computer monitors being sold today as well. This set is beautiful and doubly so because of its uniqueness. The 16×10 ratio (as another review pointed out) is a perfect choice, making 4:3 full screen look a lot less distorted. The 16×9 HD images have only a slight bar above and below the picture (thanks to the incredible black this set produces it’s almost unnoticeable). The square look with the radius corners is very classy and very appealing aesthetically. The opening along the bottom gives the impression the TV is floating. The set’s cabinet is heavy and very high quality. I got the black one and was surprised to see the cabinet is white. It’s a beautiful combination with a slight white line around the black front, like a graphic design. The TV is very stable with the bracket in the back. It will stand up straight in a vertical position and feels plenty solid. The bit about a strap to secure it probably comes from the fact that Sony’s US headquarters is located in Brisbane, only about 60 miles from the epicenter of the Lomo Prieta Earthquake in 1989. I was an electronics retailer at the time (much closer to the epicenter) and we lost everything in the store. A 100 lb. 32″ Sony flew about ten feet and smashed itself on a counter. I think everyone in three counties lost their TV. After that quake everyone was advised to strap their TV’s, bookcases and the doors to cabinets securely. Sony btw was the best of all our vendors in helping us recover. They are a class act in every way, and the innovative styling of TV’s like this one deserves a place in the Museum of Industrial Design.

I love it. Highly recommended.

5 Stars Great Television
This tv is wonderful. It is clear and has great sound and is the perfect size for my room. This is the second sony I have bought recently and will buy this kind again.

5 Stars Brilliant Picture
I purchased this TV for my kitchen where I did not want a TV to be the focal point of the room. It is the perfect size, and because of the unique design (speakers hidden, “bounce” sound off bottom bar) it can be set up just about anywhere and look and work great. Instead of having a stand under it, it has an easel-style back, giving it a small horizontal and vertical footprint. The picture is outstanding (connected to Uverse via HDMI cable), sound is great, and the setup a no-brainer. It is a great set at a very good price.

5 Stars Great Television
This tv is wonderful. It is clear and has great sound and is the perfect size for my room. This is the second sony I have bought recently and will buy this kind again.

5 Stars Nice LCD TV –Honestly Speaking
I ordered this TV after many weeks of research on the net. I have only had it now for few weeks and nothing compares to it- honestly speaking. The picture and sound are crisp clear – a true 1080 pixel quality. With an upscaling DVD player you are sure to watch a HD quality picture just with a normal DVD. The picture quality for sure is much better than that of 720p TV.

Though expensive(almost twice the price of a 720p sony M or L series, anybody who wouldn’t compromise quality should go for the XBR series instead of M or L series if he/she can afford it.However am hoping it will be able to stand a test of time (ie durable). I recommend it.

4 Stars One of my more tasteful reviews
So here is the bottom line on this Sony…

1. Beautiful appeal, the product simply leaps out of the box it will actually look better then described.

2. The options truly due seem limitless, picture, screen, sound, and more with stunning capabilities to adjust even the very finest of viewing detail.

3. The TV menu (if you like the PS3 styling) is wonderful and currently supasses most of what is on the market.

4. When other reviewers speak of 3D like picture quality yes this is very true, the color reproduction of this TV is outstanding and with the Bravia Engine 2 you will enjoy very life like images.

5. The TVs internal software is updatable with a USB stick there is one update available at the time of this review, very neat feature.

6. The built in TV Guide feature is amazing with listings for almost every channel, it will tell you whats on and whats next with many search features (need not apply for those of you with cable boxs)

7. Many inputs and ways to select them very simple and easy to use.

8. The TV will dim/adjust the screen brightness based on the lighting in your room.

Issues noticed:

1. The TV will create a “new plastic odor” when turned on for the first couple weeks however this is not an issue for most people since the smell is not too strong and is that of just plastic.

2. The software runs a tad slow and will lag minorly but is well worth it for its capabilites, also the TV takes a few moments to load.

3. The TV will give off a slight hummmm while turned on this can be very irritating in a quite room.

4. I received a complimentary small scratch on the stand that came with mine, just a thought for the QC conscious

For those who are wondering the digtal compression artifacts and picture judder (MPEG noise) etc is very tolerable on this TV with many options to smooth out such things, also channel changing SD to SD is fairly quick.

In summation this TV is a good buy, lots of inputs and nice styling with solid performance to back it up.

As always, happy shopping =)

5 Stars Simply the Best
I’ve owned nothing but Sony TV’s since the 70’s.Always excellent and never any problems.

This 32 XBR is no exception. Picture quality is the best of any 32″ I tested, the design of the set is superb.Even non high def channels look great.

Higly recommended!

5 Stars Usual Sony Quality
After looking and comparing HDTV’s for several months I finally decided to opt out for top quality as opposed to size… I have always been very happy with Sony products and this is no exception… I am well pleased and glad that I chose the KDL-32XBR6… I look forward to many hours of pleasure… I was also pleased with the delivery, which was free… Pilot was the delivery service and delivered two days early….

D.Ray

5 Stars My 32″ Monitor
I had been shopping the market for a good TV for months before I settled on this Bravia. My size requirements and budget limited me to a TV in the 32-37″ range, and the opened box deal was too good to pass up. Ideally, I would have rather bought a plasma for the richer colors, but because of my plans to use this as a replacement computer monitor, and because I leave my computer on a lot, I went with an LCD for its smaller size and to avoid the dreaded “burn in”. I have my 360 and PS3 hooked up to it, and both look absolutely stunning, but the awesomeness of having this as my computer monitor trumps them both! I tried a number of set-ups to achieve this and found that buying a DVI to HDMI cable ($20 here on amazon) is the best solution, and the quality is, near as makes no difference, the same or better than a standard monitor. The TV does require a little bit of settings-fiddling to get the screen to fit properly, but it only took a few minutes of digging through the immense properties menu. Also, you have to make sure your video drivers are fully up-to-date, and there may even be additional HDTV drivers to download, depending on the make of your video card.

To anyone looking for an HDTV-computer monitor solution, I highly recommend this TV and the DVI to HDMI cable. This, on top of the 1080p graphics from an Xbox or PS3 make this TV worth it. I can’t wait to get my HDTV cable box from Comcast and complete the whole package.
